Taste America shines the culinary spotlight on San Antonio during a multi-course dinner hosted by Chef Elizabeth Johnson of Pharm Table.

Has the James Beard Foundation saved the best for last?

The foundation’s 10th annual Taste America, which launched June 29 in Houston, shines the culinary spotlight on San Antonio this month during a multi-course dinner hosted by Chef Elizabeth Johnson of Pharm Table, topping off this year’s series.

“San Antonio has been a very strong market with such a strong food scene,” said Samantha Schabel Foster, producer and publicist for James Beard Foundation’s Texas edition of the Taste America series.

This is the second year Taste America has highlighted San Antonio. The ninth annual series dinner at Dashi Sichuan Kitchen + Bar brought together host chefs Kristina Zhao and Jian Li with guest chef Johnny Hernandez of La Gloria.

This year, the James Beard Foundation created a TasteTwenty team for Taste America by selecting 20 chef teams from 20 cities. The collaboration allows participating chefs to serve as hosts and guests during the series highlighting local restaurants and their fare. In August, Johnson joined chef Eric Skokan at Black Cat Farm Bistro in Denver for the pop-up dinner, and on March 29, chefs Alex Meyer and Luciana Giangrandi of Boia De in Miami will join Johnson at Pharm Table to present Taste America: San Antonio.
